The marking gauge (рейсмус) is used to draw parallel lines on the surface of metal or wood. It can be adjusted by the height of the column and the marking needle. The common column is 200-400 mm, and the marking needle is made of high-speed steel or hard alloy. Selection criteria: column rigidity (fine ones may shake and affect accuracy), presence of fine adjustment screw (precise height adjustment), needle hardness (hard alloy is the most durable), presence of magnetic seat (fixed on metal surface), and whether the base is straight.
