Diagonal pliers (side cutters) shear copper wire, iron wire and plastic with an angled cutting edge, usually chromium-vanadium steel with induction-hardened edges, in sizes 4.5"–8". The two edges meet flush, so soft wire cuts cleanly and the end is flat — but never use them on steel wire or screws, and never as a pry bar. Look for flush-cut edges (so you can cut tight to a surface), a durable return spring and non-slip grips. Choose small sizes for electronics, 6"–7" for electrical work.
