Top cutters carry the cutting edge at the very tip of the head, so they can trim cable ties, plastic sprues, copper wire and component leads flush where side cutters cannot reach. Common sizes are 5"–6" with hardened edges, and the cut leaves almost no protrusion. Check that the edge sits flush with the head (this decides whether you can cut right against a surface), whether there is a stop to protect neighbouring components, and that the spring return is light.
